French composer Alexandre Desplat, who is considered to be one of the major contenders for the 2009 Best Original Score Oscar with his score for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, is doing the music for Nora Ephron's new film, Julie & Julia, which stars Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. The film is based on Julia Child's autobiographical book "My Life in France" and is produced by Scott Rudin Productions for release by Columbia Pictures on August 7. As mentioned before, Desplat's other upcoming films include Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life and Stephen Frears' Cheri.

What's with the slow timing on the release of this info? Nora Ephron openly said that Alexandre was composing for her new film all the way back at the Tribeca Film Festival last year.
