Alberto Iglesias: The Argentine

Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias is scoring acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh's next two films: The Argentinian and Guerrilla. Iglesias, who is best known for his stylish scores for the films of Pedro Almodóvar (Talk To Her, All About My Mother, Volver), was nominated for an Oscar for The Constant Gardener, which launched his US career after more than 20 years of film composing in Spain. The Argentine and Guerrilla are a two-part biopic about revolutionary Che Guevara, portrayed by Benicio del Toro and co-starring Benjamin Bratt, Lou Diamond Phillips, Franka Potente and Julia Ormond.

Cliff Eidelman: He's Just Not That Into You

It's been a while since we heard a new score from Cliff Eidelman, the composer of acclaimed 1990s scores such as Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Now and Then and Leap of Faith, but he has now been hired to score one of New Line Cinema's major upcoming films, He's Just Not That Into You. It's a comedy filled with big stars: Scarlett Johansson, Justin Long, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore and Kris Kristofferson. Ken Kwapis (who worked with Eidelman on The Beautician and the Beast and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) directs from a script adapted from the book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. Film is scheduled to premiere on August 1, 2008. The signing of Eidelman has been confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores/Film Music Weekly by New Line Cinema.

Mark Mothersbaugh: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Mark Mothersbaugh, who is best known for his scores for Wes Anderson's films (The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou), is going to score Sony Animation's upcoming feature Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Mothersbaugh, who is repped by Greenspan Artist Management, also has the scores for Fanboys (Kyle Newman's comedy about a group of Star Wars fans who travel to George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch to steal an early copy of the original 1977 film) and Mama's Boys (a comedy starring Diane Keaton and Jeff Daniels), coming up.

Nathan Larson: Choke

Choke, a drama comedy starring Sam Rockwell, Kelly Macdonald and Anjelica Huston, will get an original score composed by Nathan Larson, who is best known for the music he has written for acclaimed features such as Boys Don't Cry, Dirty Pretty Things and Tigerland. Choke is based on a novel by Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk, produced by ATO Pictures and directed by Clark Gregg, who is also doing one of the film's characters.

Rupert Gregson-Williams: Made of Honor

Rupert Gregson-Williams, who has scored recent box office hits such as Over the Hedge, Bee Movie and I Know Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, has been hired to score Made of Honor, the new romantic comedy starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan. The film is directed by Paul Weiland, the British helmer who made Roseanna's Grave ten years ago, and scheduled to premiere on May 2, 2008. Gregson-Williams is also doing the music for You Don't Mess With the Zohan, an Adam Sandler comedy directed by Dennis Dugan.

Stanley Clarke: First Sunday

Stanley Clarke, the legendary bass player and an experienced film composer with credits such as The Transporter, Boyz n the Hood and Romeo Must Die on his resumee, is doing the music for First Sunday, a comedy starring Ice Cube, Katt Williams and Tracy Morgan. David E. Talbert directs and Ice Cube produces together with Matt Alvarez. Story is about two criminals who come up with a desperate scheme to rob their neighborhood church. Film is scheduled to premiere on January 11, 2008, and is Stanley Clarke's first film since Roll Bounce, which he scored in 2005.

Javier Navarrete: Fireflies in the Garden

Spanish composer Javier Navarrete, who came to international prominence with his Oscar-nominated score for Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth last year, is currently working on the score for Fireflies in the Garden, a drama starring Julia Roberts, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, Carrie-Anne Moss and Ryan Reynolds. Written and directed by Dennis Lee, the film centers on an intimate and personal depiction of a family struck by an unexpected tragedy. Navarrete has been busy since he scored Pan's Labyrinth, working for French veteran filmmaker Jean-Jacques Annaud on His Majesty Minor and with director Iain Softley on his fantasy adventure Inkheart.
